This is Manchu old custome: after the girl was born, she has to have three piercings for each ear and wear three tongs which is called ‘one ear three tongs’. Ear clips are also called ‘earrings’, the ones for the rich are made of gold, silver or jade, and the poor have them in copper. During the Qing Dynasty, this style covers among all women.
